Remember that rumor that Jim Carrey wasn’t Jim Carrey when he appeared at the César Awards in February? Well, it’s one of those things that was addressed, but that people are still going like, wait, what happened there? And now someone else has jumped into the fray. And someone who probably knows a lot more than more people who have commented on it before.
While speaking with People at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26, Jenny McCarthy, who dated Carrey from 2005 to 2010, was very clear. She told the outlet she had no doubt that “it was definitely Jim Carrey” who attended the awards show in February. And to her, the most remarkable thing about his appearance wasn’t how he looked physically.
“He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him,” she said, adding, “That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.'”
“You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss,” McCarthy’s husband Donnie Wahlberg added, “We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”
Prior to the awards in February, Carrey hadn’t been seen in public since November 2025, which is why people tried to dissect his appearance. Though in truth, that’s just the drawback of being in the public eye. People are always dissecting something.
McCarthy and Carrey called it quits in 2010 after five years together, but they parted in really good terms. So much so that McCarthy shared a message for her ex after the news became public. “I’m so grateful for the years Jim and I shared together,” McCarthy said at the time. “I will continue to be in his daughter’s life and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.”
After Carrey appeared at the César Awards in February conspiracy theories started swirling over his physical appearance, with people wondering if he’d had plastic surgery. But then the internet took it even farther, with some theories going as far as to suggest that he had been replaced by a clone, claiming that his eye color seemed lighter than usual and that he signed autographs with his right hand despite being left-handed.
Then the conspiracy got wings when makeup artist Alexis Stone suggested that he had transformed into the actor with a viral Instagram post with a face mask and a set of fake teeth. “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris,” Stone captioned the post.
Carrey never addressed the controversy directly, but a source told The Daily Mail that Carrey finds the conspiracy more “sad” than funny. “Jim is sad. Not because people are questioning or making fun of his appearance, he’s not worried about that at all. Rather, he is sad that people are stupid,” the insider said. “The world he lives in has people that believe a 64-year-old man is now apparently a clone.”
The source indicated the actor was upset people suggested he wasn’t acting like himself. “For Jim, this is something he should laugh about, but stupidity like this is a not a laughing matter,” the insider said. “He hates that people aren’t talking about what is actually important.”
